A sealed system does not have an F&E tank but instead an expansion vessel (which can be internal or external to the boiler). Combi, Heat Only and System boilers can all work on a sealed system…
An expansion vessel is basically a chamber with a butyl rubber diaphragm across the middle. On one side of the diaphragm is the central heating system water; on the other side is a gas, either air or nitrogen (for convenience, we'll assume it's air). During manufacture, the air side is pumped up to about ¾ bar.
If there is too much water in the system, the final pressure of the system is reached too quickly and the safety valve is activated needlessly, with the result that the boiler will show a fault and shut down by loss of pressure. Inadequate filling of the system may result in the expansion vessel running dry when the system cools down.
A. Boiler means a closed vessel in which water is heated, steam is generated, steam is superheated, or any combination thereof, under pressure or vacuum for external use by the direct application of heat.
A key component of a hot water boiler system is an expansion tank attached to the boiler or the nearby heating pipes. The expansion tank serves to provide space for water and air within the boiler system to expand and contract without damaging pipes or valves.
“Boiler” includes power boilers and low pressure boilers and means a closed vessel in which water is heated, steam is generated, steam is superheated, or any combination thereof, under pressure or vacuum for use external to itself by the direct application of heat.
Thermal fluid heating is a type of indirect heating in which a liquid phase heat transfer medium is heated and circulated to one or more heat energy users within a closed loop system. Thermal oil, glycol, and water are common heat transfer mediums for these systems.
Pennsylvania’s Boiler and Unfired Pressure Vessel Law and its regulations require that the Department of Labor & Industry to: Approve the installation or moving of all boilers and unfired pressure vessels. Periodically inspect these units. Issue credentials for all persons inspecting these units.

The deaerated boiler feedwater is pumped from the bottom of the vessel to the steam generating boiler system. Vacuum rotating disc type deaerator. As shown in Figure 3, the product is distributed as a thin layer on a high speed spinning disc [3] via special feed system [1].
